Ward Campout...

Last weekend was our 14th wedding anniversary! We also had our new ward's campout, so Dan & I didn't exactly get a nice romantic getaway, but we did have fun:-) Dan had been at E3 Game Show in California for the whole week and we were anxious to get out of the city. We packed up and arrived at the ward camp near Golden around 1:30 PM on Friday, but no one was there. Dan & I walked around and decided where we'd like to park the trailer and checked out the area. When we got back to the car, Ashlyn told us that "It said 'anytime after 3 PM' on the poster at church."  NICE!  Since we had some time to kill, we drove to the nearby Colorado Nature Center and Buffalo Bill's grave. We didn't pay to go into the museum, but walked around and saw the Golden overlook. We headed back to the camp around 3:30 PM and no one was there yet, so we decided to set up camp and wait.
Another family that had just moved in 2 weeks prior showed up around 4 and we joked that this was a trick that the ward plays on all new members! A few others started to trickle in so we popped out the trailer, made a fire and started dinner. Why is it that camping food just tastes so good? We had hot dogs, S'mores and dutch oven cherry cobbler... All the healthy stuff, right? ;-)  The campground was definitely NOT roughing it, with porta-potties, swing set, volleyball courts, fireplace, picnic pavilion and running water! Corey loved climbing trees, Ashlyn, Dan & I played some volleyball and we all made some new friends. This is an amazing ward! As for a real camping experience, we have a few trips planned in July that will be a little less... cushy.
